An angle head milling cutter redirects a machine's spindle drive to a new axis — usually 90° — so a 3-axis machine can reach side faces, cross holes and deep pockets that a vertical spindle cannot, all in a single setup. The right head keeps those features to one operation instead of a second fixture or a 5-axis machine. What is an angle head milling cutter?
An angle head is a driven tool holder that mounts in the spindle like any other tool. Inside, a set of hardened, ground gears turns the spindle's rotation through 90° (fixed) or through an adjustable 0–90° range, driving a collet or side-lock output at the new angle. Precision bearings keep runout low so the redirected cut stays rigid.

How to choose: a 4-step selection
- 1Spindle taper: match BT / CAT / HSK and size (BT40 covers most work).
- 2Collet & tool: pick ER8–ER32 (or side-lock) for your cutter diameter.
- 3Reach: choose the working length to clear the workpiece — 120 to 235 mm and beyond.
- 4Speed & coolant: confirm max RPM and internal/external coolant for the operation.
